Randi Skurka Joins ACJS Speakers’ Bureau
I’m pleased to share that I’ve been selected as a speaker for the Association for Canadian Jewish Studies Speakers’ Bureau.
My two presentations are:
Who Counts? Canadian Women, Minyan and the Book of Ruth
and
Beyond Polarization: Reclaiming Dialogue in a Time of Division for Canada’s Jews
These talks reflect two complimentary strands of my work: exploring Jewish texts, tradition and identity, and engaging with contemporary questions facing Canadian Jewish communities.
I’m grateful to ACJS for the opportunity and look forward to bringing these conversations to new audiences. To book one of these talks, use this link:
Have another topic in mind? I’m available for additional speaking engagements related to Jewish life, antisemitism, Israel and contemporary Jewish issues. Please contact me directly to discuss your program or audience.
Introducing the Hon. Irwin Cotler at the 2019 gala premiere of Robert Lantos’s film, The Song of Names for StandWithUs Canada
This week I attended the world premiere of the film The Betrayers, written and directed by David Bezmozgis, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Betrayers is an adaptation of Bezmozgis’ 2014 novel of the same name. It centers on Baruch, an Israeli politician and former Soviet dissident disgraced by scandal, who takes refuge in Crimea where he unexpectedly encounters Volodya, the man who originally betrayed him to the KGB many years earlier. The timeline is changed to 2021, and feels eerily contemporary in its storylines. Kudos, David to a wonderful adaptation! Bravo!!
